Step-By-Step Guide

Don't know where to start? Looking for a fresh perspective? Let our guide walk you through the world of homeschooling - Step-By-Step!

  • Step 1: A Few Basics
As with anything new and exciting, the inclination is to jump in with both feet. Before heading down the fast track to burn-out, learn a few things from those who have "been there, done that." You can begin your homeschool journey on the path to success!
  • Step 2: A New Framework
Let's face it - we've been indoctrinated. Most of us have spent at least twelve years in some type of institutional "school" system. Rather than replicating a failed system at home, we need a new foundation to build upon.
  • Step 3: The Right Environment
With a bit of imagination, your home can be transformed into a wonderful learning environment. Most importantly, it can be a place where children are free to experiment, discover and grow in a nurturing atmosphere.
  • Step 4: Develop Your Approach
As you educate yourself about homeschooling, you will find families who have found success using the classical approach or following Charlotte Mason's teachings, or by combing methods to create an entirely new approach. But copying others will not bring YOUR family success. Follow the Holy Spirit's leading in developing your approach.
  • Step 5: A Road Map
Rather than follow a "scope and sequence" developed by a publisher, create your own. After setting goals for each child, these milestones and the order in which they are approached will become your personalized road map.
  • Step 6: Evaluating Progress
Once goals are established for each child, it is time to determine how you will evaluate whether or not the goals have been reached. However we choose to evaluate, let it be in an atmosphere of love and acceptance.
  • Step 7: Smart Scheduling
Your schedule will be a guide you will follow in your efforts to meet your goals when things run as smooth as a well-oiled engine...and when the train runs off the track! Creating a workable schedule takes planning, perseverance and flexibility; but it doesn't have to be complicated.
